My Story

I am originally born and raised in Southwest Florida to German parents, and thereby, having a German upbringing. I was fortunate enough to travel most Summers and Winters to Europe to see family, and also be exposed to a culture besides the American one I grew familiar with. This already set me on the path to want to pursue something in an international context.

My academic journey sparked from a deep fascination with cross-cultural communication, leading me to a B.S. in Marketing coupled with a Minor in German. This foundation was profoundly transformed during an exchange at Hochschule Osnabrück, Germany, where navigating international business landscapes taught me the vital importance of an adaptable, multi-perspective approach.

Since then, I have bridged these professional soft skills with technical rigor as a Master’s candidate in Information Systems and Operations Management. My story is one of integrating creative strategy with data-driven execution, always driven by the goal of fostering global connections that create tangible, lasting impact.

Extracurricular involvement was also a crucial part of my university experience. Throughout my time I was at least a member of:

- American Meteorological Society (AMS)

- Association for Information Systems (AIS)

- Deutschklub (German Club)

- Global Business Society (GBS)

- International Programs Student Ambassadors (IPSA)

- International Scholars Program (ISP)

- TEDxUF

Values & Philosophy

My Life Philosophy:

Nothing in life comes or is easy. Effort needs to be put in to create the best life possible, and sometimes it's not just the work you do, but also the framing and mentality being adaptable.

There really is no "easy" or "hard" in life, it's all just familiar and unfamiliar.

The toughest battles are those you face internally to believe in yourself and push yourself to complete something unfamiliar or uncomfortable, that's where the strength is built.

Having the right mentality is at the core of anything, and seeing things in a positive light even if it may not seem good at the moment, will get anyone through the toughest of times. Below are some of my favorite quotes I resonate with:

"Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn"
"The prettiest sunsets have clouds"
"Rejection is redirection; it just isn't the path you're meant to be on"
"Per Aspera, Ad Astra"

It's important for me to sometimes take a step back and look at a situation that may not go to plan remembering that what I experienced was not a failure, but a learning lesson I can apply in the future. Regardless of what occurs, every moment is either conquered or learned from-- there is never failure.

Anytime I am disappointed or confused as to why something did not go the way I wished it would, I remind myself that this is the universe telling me that it was not meant for me at this time. I am not discouraged by this missed opportunity, but relieved I was strayed away from the path life had not intended for me.

Every rejection I have experienced taught me something and put me where I am today.

Similar to the  quote on the  homepage regarding the stars shining only in darkness, even though the clouds are usually associated with rain and sadness, think back to all the gorgeous sunsets you've experienced. I bet the prettiest ones all had clouds in them. Going through the darker and  less positive times make the positive ones oh so much better.

Having the framing of remembering the good only seems so good because there is also the bad backing it, is a philosophy I carry to keep pushing through.

Latin for "through hardships, to the stars"  also resonates with me because of my fascination with space and the  reminder to shoot for the moon and you'll at least land amongst the stars. Be ambitious and hardworking to get the life you want and deserve.

Clifton Strengths

  1.  Input (Strategic Thinking)

    • This strength focuses on "a deep, insatiable curiosity and a natural tendency to collect, archive, and organize information, ideas, artifacts, or relationships"

  2. Harmony (Relationship Building)

    • "individuals who naturally seek consensus, peace, and practical, common-ground solutions."

    • I often find myself acting as a mitigator during disagreements, trying to work with others while staying calm to find something that works for all.

  3. Intellection  (Strategic Thinking)

    • This strength reflects my desire for high emotional intelligence : "a high capacity for introspection, reflection, and mental activity"

  4. Restorative (Executing)

    •  My natural desire to problem solve is reflected through this strength: "individuals who excel at troubleshooting, diagnosing, and fixing broken systems, processes, or products. As natural problem-solvers, they are energized by challenges others might avoid, aiming to restore things to their optimal, healthy state"

  5. Significance (Influencing)

    • I want my work to always have meaning and purpose, as reflected here: " individuals driven by a deep desire to make a substantial, lasting impact"

January 2025- Class of Spring 2027

M.S. Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM): Hough Graduate School UF

An opportunity the Warrington College of Business provides students with is the option to complete Graduate level coursework while still working on a B.S. I started with my M.S. in Information Systems and Operations Management in Spring of 2025.

Warrington Exchange: Hochschule Osnabrück

March 2024 - July 2024

Through the Warrington College of Business Partnership with Hochschule Osnabrück (University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück) I was able to study abroad in Germany taking courses in both English and German while also completing an internship.

B.S. Marketing: University of Florida

Fall 2022 - Class of Spring 2026

I started university full time in the Fall of 2022 at UF. I declared a minor in German, carrying over coursework from FGCU, and pursued a Meteorology certificate to satisfy my desire to learn more about this field.

Dual Enrollment: Florida Gulf Coast University

Fall 2020 - Spring 2022

During highschool, I was able to complete my General Education Requirement (60 credits) through Dual Enrollment at FGCU. During this time I majored in Management with International Business concentration.

My Educational Journey

04

Attain a DBA

This goal may be mighty, and requires years of work experience, but it is something I hope to attain and further my education with.

03

Reach Leadership Roles

01

What are some of my

Career Goals

Work Internationally

02

Business Analytics

I dream of working in Europe primarily-- specifically looking at Germany or Ireland, but I would not be opposed to many other options.

Although Marketing may be considered a more qualitative field, my interest in data analysis hopefully will create a crossroads for my future career.

Through my natural drive to lead groups, I hope to work my way up to leadership positions in the companies I work at. Even though I may not strive for the very top, taking care of any team would be fulfilling for me.

Traveling and Interacting with International Cultures

Being part of globally oriented organizations on campus helps me connect easily with many cultures while at UF. In my free time, I love going on spontaneous trips to cities with my friends and going abroad during longer breaks.

Space and Weather related activities

Ever since I was little I have always been fascinated by space, the stars, planets, rocket launches etc. My name, Selina, derives from the latin word for "daughter of the moon goddess". My love for weather started when hurricanes and tornadoes didn't necessarily scare me in middle school. Since then, I find opportunities to connect with both interests, which living in Florida helps a lot with.

My creative outlets: Crocheting, Pottery, nails, building computer keyboards, arts and crafts in general

Being in a professional academic discipline, I find ways to still be creative. While studying marketing I've realized I am not built for 2D art necessarily. Therefore, I much rather explore more 3D and hands on opportunities.

Some of my Hobbies and Interests include...
